The classic traveling tent revival is a staple in many Realities across the Multiverse. The Evangelists however has a tent like no other. Born with a mutant ability to enthrall listeners with only the spoken word the Evangelist can inspire feelings of fear, passion, hate, and even submission with just a few minutes of speaking. This ability gives the Evangelist the opportunity to captivate an audience within the walls of a grand revival tent that is somehow larger on the inside than it appears. Once inside the effects of the Evangelist’s empathic abilities contains and enthralls the audience while unbeknownst to them the tent itself begins to drain their life force. The more passionate the crowd, the greater the effect. Stolen from a dying elder being of unknown origin this tent now grants the Evangelist the ability to prolong life by taking a few years from the end of the audience’s lifeforce. At first the Evangelists tried holding performances such as a circus in the tent, but soon discovered that nothing brought in passionate crowds like that old time religion. Traveling across the Multiverse from remote town to remote town the Evangelist sets up the tent and calls to the faithful of whatever religion is prevalent. Within days of the Evangelist and the tent leaving a wake of death follows as these small communities suffer a batch of unexpected deaths amongst the elderly and the very young.
The House of Rods has made great use of the Evangelist since discovering the true nature of both them and the tent. The ability to generate a rash of deaths in religiously frightened populations is a great tool in weakening another faith or reinforcing your own. The Evangelist has become a cherished instrument of the House of Rods and as such enjoys a center level of autonomy. However in recent years the Evangelist and the House leadership have disagreed about matters of administration and interpretations of the Tenets of Villainy. It is rumored the Evangelist and others may be planning a Reformation of the House of Rods at the next Occularium.
